The Website that I used for making this storyboard was 'storyboardthat.com' this website is not the best website however, I am not very good at drawing so had to use as it was the best I could get.
For this Survey that i did i used the website Surveymonkey, i asked numerous people in my class to answer the questions on my survey to make it fair as they all have their own opinion on things. I did this Survey in order to give me a better understanding of how to make a good opening sequence for a horror film.
The genre that i am doing for my opening sequence is horror, this is why the three in depth analysis that i am going to do are all horror films. I am doing this as it will help me gain an understanding of what i should include in a horror film opening sequence. Insidious Opening Sequence Jaws Opening Sequence The Woman In Black Opening Sequence An opening sequence is a crucial part of a movie, this is because it provides you with the information about the movie. This includes the company logos for company's that were involved in the production of the film. It also includes titles for the stars of the film and all the people who were involved with the film such as key production members. The Conjuring Opening Sequence The first opening sequence is for The Conjuring. This genre of this film is a horror film. I can tell that this is a horror film due to the non-digetic music that is put in the background during the opening sequence. The music that is used is very edgy and has a very low pitch to it and the notes also drag out for quite a long duration of time. Furthermore, as some of the names of the people who are involved with the film are shown, they are in the colour red. This therefore gives the sense of danger as the colour red conveys danger for majority of the time. This is because this colour is associated with blood and gore which are linked with death etc. Moreover, the dolls head within the sequence moves without anything touching it and it is staring right at the the camera in order to make the audience feel scared and uncomfortable. This results in the sequence feeling more like a horror. Goldeneye Opening sequence The second opening sequence is from the Bond film Goldeneye, from this opening sequence i can tell that this film is an action film. This is because the opening shot has an explosion and then there is a plane which flies very close to the explosion. This makes the audience feel on edge which is what an action film is meant to do so it is therefore conventional. Furthermore, the sequence also involves some guns which you can see as well as the explosion. This is stereotypically what action films are like as they are trying to 'wow' the audience. Also, within the sequence the film has titles for the name of the actors and producers and companies etc. This is because the aim of an opening sequence is to provide information about the film whilst also keeping the audience engaged, which is why they used guns and fire within the sequence. Deadpool Opening Sequence The third opening sequence is from the marvel film Deadpool. This film is a fantasy/sci-fi film but is also heavily action based and also has a lot of comedy aspects about it as well. I can tell that this film is partly comedy due to the credits that are used within the sequence. For example, in the sequence it states the film was produced by an overpaid tool. Furthermore, right at the start of the sequence there is the animation of the marvel logo, this is a trademark for marvel and is used in order to let the audience know that it is a marvel creation film which is what an opening sequence is meant to do. Lastly, you can tell that the film is meant to be an action by the fact that you can see Deadpool in his costume and also because there is guns and violence within the sequence. |
